Blockchain technology is indeed making giant strides in its integration process in today's digital world. Ford Motors, the auto giant, is giving bigger credence to the role of blockchain in its blockchain pilot program aimed at improving fuel efficiency.
Ford Motors, through the chairman of its management board Gunnarr Hermann, announced on Tuesday that it would employ blockchain to monitor and automatically implement fuel-efficient driving modes for a fleet of vehicles in Cologne, Germany. This is part of a stretched pilot program taking place simultaneously in London and Valencia, Spain.
Ford pilots innovative geofencing and blockchain technology to ensure vehicles operate efficiently in city center low-emission zones. This is in a move to help combat climate change and to help reduce the rate of fuel emissions into the atmosphere.
In this pilot trial, nine Ford Transit Custom Plug-In Hybrid vans and one Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid people-mover will be put to the test in a variety of real‑world use cases while testing the efficiency of blockchain technology and innovative geofencing in the accurate tracking of the number of green miles driven by cars.
According to Mark Harvey, Director, Commercial Vehicle Mobility, Ford of Europe, “Ford is committed to delivering new, more environmentally sustainable vehicles that can help address the mobility challenges our cities face,” The role blockchain in ensuring data security and permanent timestamping is just another creative way blockchain will help in building more eco-friendly cities all over the world.
