The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a warning to the public regarding unauthorised websites and mobile applications linked to Livi Bank Limited. This announcement follows a press release by Livi Bank, which has reported these fraudulent activities to the HKMA.

Details of the Alert

According to the HKMA, these unauthorised platforms have been designed to mislead users into providing sensitive personal information. The authority emphasized that legitimate banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to their websites for transactions. Additionally, banks will not request login passwords, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), or other sensitive information via phone, email, or SMS.

Furthermore, affected individuals should report the incident to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.

Related Incidents

This alert from the HKMA is part of a growing concern over cybersecurity threats targeting financial institutions. Recently, other banks have also faced similar issues, prompting regulatory bodies worldwide to increase their vigilance and public awareness campaigns.
