NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, speaking at the SIGGRAPH 2024 conference, shared his vision of a future where AI assistants become an integral part of everyday life and business operations. He emphasized the transformative potential of generative AI and accelerated computing technologies, which are set to revolutionize various industries.

Generative AI and Accelerated Computing

Huang highlighted the significant advancements in generative AI, which have their roots in visual computing. He pointed out that accelerated computing not only boosts productivity but also enhances energy efficiency. According to Huang, “Accelerated computing helps you save so much energy, 20 times, 50 times, and doing the same processing.” He stressed the importance of accelerating applications to reduce global energy consumption.

New Announcements and Integrations

The conference saw a flurry of announcements from NVIDIA. The company introduced a suite of NIM microservices designed for diverse workflows, including OpenUSD, 3D modeling, robotics, and industrial digital twins. These advancements aim to bolster developer capabilities, especially through the integration of Hugging Face Inference-as-a-Service on DGX Cloud.

Additionally, Shutterstock launched a Generative 3D Service, and Getty Images upgraded its offerings using NVIDIA Edify technology. In the realm of AI and graphics, NVIDIA revealed new OpenUSD NIM microservices and reference workflows tailored for generative physical AI applications, including a program for accelerating humanoid robotics development.

Practical Applications Across Industries

Huang and WIRED's Lauren Goode discussed the evolution of visual computing from computer games to digital animation and GPU-accelerated computing, leading to today’s generative AI powered by industrial-scale AI factories. Huang explained that robotics requires advanced AI and photorealistic virtual worlds for training before deployment into next-generation humanoid robots.

He also noted that industries ranging from scientific computing to industrial visualization would be transformed by generative AI. For example, NVIDIA Omniverse systems, built around the OpenUSD standard, will harness generative AI to create assets for major brands.

Future of AI Assistants and Digital Agents

Huang predicted that digital agents and AI assistants would augment every job within a company. He mentioned that customer service is one of the most promising use cases, suggesting a future where humans work alongside AI. “In the future, my guess is that it’s going to be human still, but AI in the loop,” Huang said.

All these advancements promise to amplify human productivity and creativity. Huang concluded by envisioning the compelling stories that could be told using these transformative tools.
