Animoca Brands and Partners Seek Stablecoin License in Hong Kong

Animoca Brands, a prominent player in the Web3 space, has announced a strategic collaboration with Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited (SCBHK) and HKT to establish Anchorpoint Financial Limited. This joint venture aims to secure a stablecoin issuer license in Hong Kong, according to Animoca Brands.

Strategic Move to Mainstream Stablecoins

Anchorpoint Financial Limited has formally expressed its interest in obtaining a stablecoin issuer license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). This initiative follows the enactment of the Stablecoins Ordinance on August 1, 2025. Evan Auyang, the group president of Animoca Brands, highlighted the importance of stablecoins in bridging traditional finance with Web3 technologies, reinforcing Hong Kong's status as a leading international financial center.

Participation in the HKMA Sandbox

Since July 2024, Animoca Brands, SCBHK, and HKT have been actively involved in the HKMA's stablecoin issuer sandbox. This participation aims to explore the potential of stablecoins in enhancing financial markets and payment systems, thus strengthening Hong Kong's role as a global digital assets hub.
