Sui Bridge Test Program Reveals Key Bug Fixes and Insights

In June, the Sui Bridge incentive program commenced, inviting the community to rigorously test the Sui Bridge Testnet implementation by transferring assets between Ethereum Sepolia and Sui. The program successfully facilitated over 184,000 transactions, which played a pivotal role in identifying and fixing bugs, enhancing features, and improving the overall user experience, according to The Sui Blog.

Key Stats

  • Transaction Metrics:
    • Total transactions: 184,000+
    • Transactions inbound: 127,000+
    • Transactions outbound: 57,000+
  • Participation Metrics:
    • Participated validators: 66
    • Unique SUI addresses: 10,000+
    • Unique ETH addresses: 24,000+
    • Bugs reported: 100+
    • Feedback submissions: 1,100+
  • Incentive Metrics:
    • Bridge activity using Sui Bridge frontend
      • SUI addresses seen on frontend: 9,896
      • SUI addresses eligible for rewards: 6,577
    • Discord feedback
      • SUI addresses eligible for rewards: 1,096
    • Total reward distributed: 98,669 SUI

Areas of Focus

Throughout the program, several key areas were prioritized:

  • Functionality: Ensuring smooth and reliable transaction processing.
  • Stress: Evaluating performance under high transaction volumes.
  • Security: Testing for vulnerabilities to ensure the highest level of security.
  • Usability: Gathering feedback on user experience to enhance interface design.
  • Governance: Conducting governance fire drills with validators to ensure the correct execution of bridge configuration changes.

Key Learnings and Insights

The feedback and data gathered from the community have been instrumental in the refinement of Sui Bridge. Some bugs identified included issues such as allowing bridging zero amount, frontend performance issues, and frontend interface improvements. All of these issues have been resolved, and significant improvements in frontend performance have been achieved by using a custom indexer to serve the data, thanks to the insights provided by testers.

Additionally, it was noted that the gas cost of bridging assets back to Ethereum was higher than desired due to the number of signature verifications required. A solution to reduce these costs is actively being developed for future Sui Bridge releases.

What's Next for Sui Bridge

Looking ahead, the upcoming Mainnet launch of Sui Bridge is a highly anticipated development. This milestone will introduce a secure, cost-effective native bridge to Sui, allowing users to easily transfer assets between Sui and Ethereum. Future plans include ongoing development of Sui Bridge, the inclusion of more assets, and eventual integrations with other chains. Continuous community engagement will remain crucial in enhancing Sui Bridge. Stay tuned for more updates on community initiatives as Sui Bridge continues its journey towards broader adoption.
