SillyTavern is a local-install interface developed by Cohee, RossAscends, and the SillyTavern community, offering an enhanced platform for interacting with text generation AIs (LLMs) for chatting and roleplaying with custom characters. Originating as a modification of TavernAI 1.2.8 in February 2023, SillyTavern has evolved to introduce numerous cutting-edge features. Post the 1.10.6 release version, many built-in extensions transitioned to downloadable add-ons. The platform operates on a two-branch development system, with a'release' branch for major releases and a'staging' branch for the latest features. It features a mobile-friendly interface, multiple backend API connectivity, Visual Novel-like Waifu Mode, Horde Stable Diffusion generation, Text-to-Speech support, WorldInfo for lorebooks, Author's Note/Character Bias, customizable UI elements, and notification sounds for AI responses. Users can export chats as.txt files, auto-translate messages, and have extensive prompt formatting options. SillyTavern requires NodeJS v18 installation and operates as a frontend interface requiring backend API access.
